DigiTimes reported that HP will be releasing a $99 tablet for the back-to-school season. According to the report’s sources from the upstream supply chain,at Wal-Mart stores in the U.S the tablet will be sold.
The US$99 tablet is manufactured by China-based BYD and is the second tablet that HP has outsourced to the China-based maker. The device adopts a 7-inch touch panel and Intel’s Medfield-based single-core processor.
HP’s latest 7-inch tablet, the HP Slate 7, sells for $169. That tablet’s specs are comparable to Amazon’s original Kindle Fire tablet. HP’s tablets will be competing this fall with Google’s recently announced upgraded Nexus 7.
