Google Analytics is a web analytics tools that gives us rich quality information about your website traffic and marketing status.
Still we are using Default segments in Google analytics that will show default report about traffic and visitors to your site. Google has new advanced Google segments this will allow you to create your own segments.
Standard (default) advanced segments:
This advanced segments was created especially to know about the visits such as new visitors, Traffic, paid traffic etc. you can create multiple segments in 2 methods,
Go to your Google analytics click Advanced segments at the top. Choose the Segments you want to select and hit “apply”. You can see your created segment at the table now.
This is another method to create segment, but with this you are able to create only one segment. Go to settings, select “Advanced segments”. Choose default segment and hit “apply”. You can edit your default segment by click on “copy” and apply your conditions in it. Once you have edited, that segment will be saved in “custom segments”.
Create own advanced segments:
As I said you can either select ‘Create a new custom segment from “advanced segments” menu at the top of your Google analytics or directly hit the “’Advanced Segments” from settings and click ‘Create new advanced segment’. And do following steps,
First decide an idea about your segments which type of visits it will have.
You can choose dimensions or metrics for your segment according to your design.
For example, if you only want to see visits with two or more product revenue in your reports, you would choose the ‘product revenue ‘ metric.
- Drag that dimension or metric in to your fields indicated by the dotted lines.
- Next we have to choose the conditions,
We only want to have visits with 2 or 3 product revenue, so for this we will need a ‘Greater than’ condition.
3. Choose the comparison Value for your segment. For our example I assigned value as 2.
4. You can also add and” or “or” statements to make your segments much restrictive.
5. Hit “’Test Segment” to know how much visitors are filtered with this segment.
6. At last assign name to your segments and finish it.
7. To make a report of this segments, just select “’apply to report” from the of Manage Advanced Segments page.
Default segments are not enough for our requirements, this new advanced Segments help us to filler out our required visitors. So let’s enjoy it.
