Google Docs supports editing and hosting the services of Google documents. You can open or upload the Microsoft office documents instead to edit, access those document in online. You can also download those documents to a computer for work on when you do not have the internet.
Recently, if you tried to download a doc, xsl, or ppt document that are hosted in the Google docs, you may be noticed that those documents are converted into docx, xslx or pptx documents before downloading.
The Google Company said on Wednesday that the Google Apps will not support downloading the documents in older version of Microsoft Office format starting on Monday. This update includes its Education, Government and bossiness editions. This change will effect on .doc, .xsl, .ppt document, which are created in office version 1997 – 2003.
This change make difficult to someone who are using the older versions of Microsoft office. The main issue for some users that now they have to work with the format that may not be supported on their computers.
However Microsoft making available of compatibility pack for older versions of office. This will add support for docx, xslx and pptx documents. The Open Source alternative Open Office and Libre Office also supporting the format.
Until now this update will affect for the Google Docs users, but not the Google Aps users, this update will be on October 1.
This will reduce the format of the document that you downloaded. You will notice that all the office formats are with the size of 1 kilobyte. The only option is to make available for the documents is use the Google chrome and active offline access in the browser.
