Fetch as Google tool is used to troubleshooting the poor performance of a page’s during the search results.
Fetch as Google tool returned information includes:
- HTTP response of your server
- Your crawl request date and time
- HTML code
- In a page the first 100KB of the text is visible.If the content is not there in your page, then it indicate that the page is created from JavaScript or rich media files
If someone hacked your site, then “Fetch as Google tool” is used to identify the problems in all pages. Let’s imagine a example site: www.samplesite.co,m the administrator is searching his site in Google. It appear on the search results but he found some spam terms in his site, but he can’t able to find those spam terms in his site pages source code. Fortunately Webmaster Tools verified his site, so he used the Fetch as Google tool. Using this tool he fetched the page content and the details of a page, then he found the spam terms in his site.
This will happen when some hackers insert the unwanted content in the site. So the content will display normal to everyone except Googlebot, this problem is difficult to find without the Fetch as Google tool.
To check the site crawlability use Fetch as Google, along with the other tools such as
HTML suggestions:
- Title problems: Page titles repetition will cause a Potential problems.
- Meta description problems: Duplication in meta description will cause a potential problems.

To view Crawl errors In the Webmaster Tools Dashboard.Click Health and choose Crawl errors.
Steps to follow while using Fetch as Google:
- Login in to the Google Webmaster Tools Account.
- Enter your site URL and click continue.
- Verification page will open.
- Then Download the HTML verification file and upload it in to your site URL.
- Click Verify. Then it show the verification message and click continue.
- Then Webmaster Tools page will open.
- Choose Dashboard->Health->Fetch as Google.
- In the texbox enter the path of the page.
- In the dropdown menu select the Fetch type you want for your page.Then click Fetch.
Using this tool every week you can fetch 500 URLs per Webmaster Tools account.
Note: Fetch as Google doesn’t allow the redirect.
