Webmaster tool will help you to show all details about website optimization, were your ranking, any problem in your website, is any page indexed or not. You will know the complete details of your website by using the webmaster tool. Sometimes you may forget impotent data like, how to connect it to the Google analytics and more about search query driving traffic to your web site.
Setting your site to webmaster tool:
First you have to do set up to the webmaster tool ,for this go to the Google web master tool and login with your Google account . Click the red “Add a site” button to begun.
Next you have to verify that this site is yours. This will contain the two options
1. Add Meta tag to your sites home page.
2. Use your Google analytical account.
If you already have the Google analytics, now you can check that by connecting webmaster tool to Google analytics. To do this click the alternative tab, click the “use your Google analytics account” and then click the verify button.
After successful verification you have to submit a sitemap. This is the simple XML file which will tell the webmaster to what type of pages you have in your web site.
You can fide the sitemap XML file in your website like http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. If you don’t have sitemap in your website you can use online tools like XML site map. If you develop the website by using the wordpress, you can install the Google XML site map plug in. after installing the plugin, you can see the option under settings in word press dashboard, just click the XML-site map. Click on the click here link to build your first site map.
Right click the sitemap and copy the link address.
Then past the URL in site map box to submit your web page in to the Google webmaster tools
It will take few days to pull the data about your information if you’re setting the webmaster tool to your website for first time.
Information within the webmaster tool:
Once your webmaster tool pulled the data, you will able to view the following about your site. These are the important data within the Google webmaster tools.
When you visit your site, your webmaster tool first comes to the dashboard. This will give you the overall information about your web site such as Incoming Links, Queries, Sitemaps, Crawl Errors and Top Keywords.
Site Configuration
In this site configuration section of the webmaster tool, you can view the following information.
Sitemaps
Here you will see the information like submitted URLs, last date of your web site downloaded.
Sitelinks
This will give the information about the extra internal links from your site
But you can’t able to specify which page you want to show up in sitelinks. You can demote it in this section of your Google webmaster tool.
Your Site on the Web
This section contains the important data about keywords, search quires and incoming links to your web site.
Search Queries
This query section show you the top key word searches in your website and shows the impression, clicks, CTR, Avg.position, Change in position. You can click the each search query to see which page the website has the rank for that keyword.
Links to Your Site
Google webmaster tools show you the domain names which links to your website. This is most comprehensive listing of your backlinks that you will find for free of cost.
This section shows you the keywords which are Google believe to the main subject. You can able to see the how many times you are using those keywords in your websites. Also you can click the each keyword and see why Google believes.
+1 Metrics
Google webmaster tool now tracks metrics related +1 button activity on you site and its impact in your search performance in the following section.
Search Impact
This section shows you the impact of click through rates with +1 annotation in search vs. without.
Activity
This section shows you the rate of the +1’s you have received on your site vs. on other sites. Be sure to change the selection show all to best data.
Audience
If you have enough +1’s, will show you demographics about people who are +1’s in your site including age,gender and location.
Diagnostics
This is the area to find the Crawl Errors. It’s not good to having the broken links on your website. When you click the not found link, you will see pages on your web site. If you have lot of them, focus in redirecting the ones with most incoming links.
Labs
Webmaster tool lab is sections were they are testing the data. Also there is a performance section that will tells you , how long it will take to load your site and show you something potential problem pages.
Integration with Google Analytics
You have remembered that search queries section mentioned above?
You can this within the Google analytics in your website profile and looking under Traffic Sources > Search Engine Optimization > Queries. If you not set up data sharing between Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics, you may see this message.
Just click on the set up webmaster tool data sharing to configure this option. Click on the Edit link under webmaster tool setting.
